Sports fiesta on cards!!....DAY:27/07/2010

Good news,for all the sporting buffs out there!!

 

Dig into our "History",on the right side of the blog,and you will end up with a full fledged coverage of the Sports Day celebrations/Sports meet on the occasion of Republic Day,Which if you don't know happens to be on the 26th of January.

 

The first one,organized on the 15th of August,2009,was a low profile one,while compared to the one organized on 26th,January.

 

But,with a strength of 240 and only 60% turning up for the celebrations,it was not an occasion to write home about,But this time around things have changed,GITAM University Hyderabad now boasts of a cumulative students  strength of 1200 members,and assuming at least 60% turn up,for the (planned)Two Day Sports Meet,the campus will experience gaiety all around :)

 

Events:

 

Some of the events are listed below ,which are finalized ,while another list  which will shortly follow ,once a good number of participation is confirmed :)

 

• Football(LAGH loves Football!!)
• Cricket(Sri Lana is in control!)
• Volleyball
• Throw ball

Other athletic events also form a part of this sports bonanza.

 

The ground:

 

Impressive,the plan,schedule and the new physical director are all impressive.

But it still remains if the old GITAM university Hyderabad campus's attitude of building  in thin air(Point of reference:The brochure :D) continues,all this planing and the new students expectations will lie in ruins,if the management is not able to get the playground into shape at least 48 Hrs before the Sports Day celebrations start.

 

Confidential sources add  that the new Football Ground will be ready if the rain god chooses not to wreck havoc.(I hate these subtle things in life!)

 

Roadblocks:

 

The current state of the ground is a definitely a huge roadblock,and without clearing this the Sports meets will be in a total mess.

Two major outdoor sports will be using the main ground(Oh,yes we now need to use the word main sports ground since the new ground spanning 6.5 acres is coming up right next to the New workshop,we will cover this later :)),if the new football ground is not ready.

 

And with the number of participating teams numbered at 19-20 per each sport (Football,Cricket,Throw ball),the physical director will be in a hard spot to squeeze in all these sports into the two days schedule :)

 

Literature:

 

We have covered only the sporting events till now,and various other literature events are also on the cards,but the students haven't been informed of anything substantial on this matter as yet.

 

Conclusion:

 

One of the most awaited moments,and a big platform for the new juniors to make a mark and announce to that the new kids have arrived.

This sports meets,due to the sheer number of participants  has enough potential to get the media houses running to GITAM University Hyderabad campus,and cover the events.

p.s.Hey hostlers,How about some updates please ?

Feel free to send them over,even though you can't access the Blog from the digital Library or the Wi-Fi set up on campus,there are scores of juniors out there are sending in inputs.

 

And a small mention of a particular meet which happened in the Boys hostel yesterday,Kudos to the seniors for that it was seriously helpful.(Yes the meet is the current rage among the juniors,they simply loved this initiative,hope it becomes a tradition )
