Freedom Zone:The Third Decade Of Our Lives

Yes, this is the third decade of our lives, most of us didn’t even notice it. We are into a totally new beginning for something which is going to pave the way for our lives, our future and what not, everything!!!

Our first decade(1990’s) ended up before we even knew anything, before we gained the consciousness over the remaining world, but every one does remember the new millennium celebrations, very memorable to every one.

And the next decade was the first brick in building a wall called life,Our Life. In this period of time, we remember sharing our feelings and what not ; all with our so dear loved ones-our friends.  This is the time we wont forget, we have memories to which we can come back at any stage of our life and feel happy that we were a part of it. School days are never to be forgotten one’s. School taught us not only how to live but also how to care, feel, love and share(the list goes on…!!!). Next we experienced a new way of life, junior college-the place where we made friends in a gap of two years and whom we forget never ever..there is a chance that we may forget one or two of our school friends but in this case, if you think so then you’re half dead Smile with tongue out. That was the time when we made a decision to choose something very important to us..something which would fetch us a bunch of lovely friends who were going to be a part of our lives forever. Yes, we decided our career and everything and today we are here with our dear friends promising to stay with’em until our last breath.

We don’t remember how the second decade might have started but everyone does remember the end of it-the most memorable one,  coz we got our new companions who would last forever with us. At that time, we realized what life really means, and we were still learning about the world around us but in a new context. We decided what we were going to be in the future and learnt many things, made countless friends and started partying and everything. If we didn’t like anything, we bunked, but this time it was not a lonely bunk,it was a mass bunk living up the spirit of unity Open-mouthed smile. Everyday, we learnt new things, not in physics and chemistry but in values and friendship.

And now this third decade welcomes us with a great smile and joy which would last forever, in which we are ready to create a few memories which we never ever forget. We are going to live “the time of our lives” with our most loved ones.
So, lets welcome this decade with happiness and joy,Happy New Decade everyone…!! Smile

one last advice>> Stop worrying and Start partying Open-mouthed smile !!!

Padfoot.

Freedom Zone: Three Months….!!

I walked in expecting very little from my new found home, located in this small village called as Rudraram,Which I have never heard of before,Nor did the name of the mandal Patancheru, look friendly to me,I have always heard of Patahncehru to be a place filled with loads and loads of Industries, and the moment I heard the name, the  thing which struck me was pollution,as patancheru was always in the paper in connection with pollution, and the prospect of having to study in such a place for the next four years looked like a terrible idea to me.

The pictures of the campus found on LAGH didn’t help me much either,a semi-constructed building with all the works pending, made me dizzy, but since the options for me were very limited, given my extremely large rank in EAMCET ,and below par performance in AIEEE (Don't even think about IIT-JEE!!),the only option left was GITAM,yes other Deemed Universities like VIT,SRM,MIT were an option,And I did end up with some not so good scores there, but since my parents were reluctant to (thanks to my past,I was caught watching porn in my 7th grade, obviously after this My dad would never let me out of his sight,And I never pushed forward for VIT/SRM etc :)).send me outstation, GITAM seemed the only sane option left and I had to but take the step forward, and I must confess I was very brave in taking admission into this institution.

ADMISSIONS:

The admission, process was complete in a jiffy since I was clear on what I wanted from the start ,My choice of branch and  Campus(Hyd/Vskp),was pretty clear from the Start.

I wanted Civil, and that is what I got,and while everyone in the counselling centre was busy deciding whether to choose the Hyd campus or the VSKP campus,I was clearly focused on the Hyderabad campus, not because it was so fucking “fascinating”,but because I had no other option.

The admission procedure was over in a jiffy, and the classes were set to begun on the 10th of July,But I decided to come on the 15th of July .

BUS RIDE:

Living about 58 km away from the campus,I hated the prospect of having to travel in these rickety old RTC buses all the way from my currently dwelling  near DSNR to Rudraram.

A  month of the never ending travel in these buses which move at snails space(and the added burden of back pain ) I am still cursing the luck of my seniors,as they get to travel in better buses and cover the distance  in better time too, they don’t have to wait for their buses to come from some depot, nor do they have to bear the water leaks from the bus windows/top.(Yes!During the rainy season the RTC bus used to leak!!),I then decided to bid farewell to these darn buses, and moved into the Hostel.

HOSTEL LIFE:

The first month of my hostel life was the month of August, and wait till I share the worst  part of my hostel life.

I was given a room in the first floor, which was vacated by a EEE student,I did take some time to get used to the way guys lived in the hostel.Suddenly I found myself in the company of 300 other guys,I felt strange and doubted my orientation for a second,What in the fucking world was I doing in a room with three other guys, who roam around in their Shorts, and most of the time semi-nude in the hostel room, this seemed to be the norm in my wing on the first floor, while the other two floors were more or less sensible when it came to clothing.

But as the time passed,I realized why people in the hostel liked moving around in shorts,it was a very simple reason, the comfort given by shorts is pretty great and simply phenomenal, and to hell with what others think about it(What !! everyone including our seniors act as if they are the brand ambassadors of Shorts!).

Getting used to roaming around in Shorts in the hostel was pretty easy, but the difficult part came in when I  had to get used to this concept of the common bathroom and loos thingy, these washrooms weren’t as lame as they show in movies, the bathrooms were relatively tidy,And since I was mentally prepared for the worst kind of bathrooms, the bathrooms kind of made me feel okay,But I am still getting used to this concept of common bathrooms.

GROUPIES:

I have herd that the concept of groups being formed on the basics of caste was pretty predominant in the Vizag campus, even thought the caste equation was pretty low in the Hyderabad campus,I was already aware of some groups formed by some of the senior students like,Crusaders,Saints,Freaks etc, these names are etched in the classroom benches(Okay,I did also read about them in LAGH,but I saw these names on the benches of the senior classrooms during the counselling time),and my fellow juniors were not far behind, with various group names like ,MIB(yeah,Men in Black),Frontiers ,Venice(Gawd..!! That is the name of a place for heavens sake!),Rebels etc,the groupies thing took to wings, but this was on a lower order, and never gained popularity.

This kind of amused me,since the concept of groups was totally insane, but them When were humans ever sane ? :P

MESS BILL:

One month in the hostel, and a disaster fell upon me,I had to do the hard task of conveying my first ever hostel bill to my parents at Rs 5315(Since I used the Dhobi who is fucking awful at his work!),I was pretty confused if joining the hostel was a good idea.

But,After the wardens(Who are the best a hostel can have!) took to the aim of brining the mess bill down to sub 5,000,I was kind of relived,And they were successful at bringing the bill down it is now at 4,700 (at least for me :))

SPORTS:

Back home,All I used to do was surf surf and surf the internet, outdoor activates were very limited, but since the hostels doesn’t have a Wi-Fi,nor do Wireless devices like Reliance net connect,Tata photon+  work in Rudraram.most of the time you are Either playing Shuttle or Cricket, and if you are lucky you get to play Table Tennis(Very rarely,it is a zone where seniors rule! :P),and loads of other activities, and games my most favourite one being the Water Rugby day!

HAUNTED STORIES:

People are gonna ask me about this for sure,Are ghosts for real ?

Let me tell you all this haunting of the hostel shit,is a story cooked up by some people including LAGH along with some movie makers, decided to capitalize on the issue, and they were very successful at it,Once the video went online, the next day I was bombarded with questions about the “Female Ghosts”,which were haunting the hostels.

I was at a loss of words, since I had no clue about the haunted Stories trailer, but the video was pretty credible and I had a hard task explaining my classmates, that Ghosts don’t exists in the hostels!!,and they were just rumours, doesn't anyone seriously read the disclaimer or What ?

[For those who don’t know about it Check YouTube For haunted stories By LAGH.]

Random Stuff:

Other random stuff which form a part of my hostel life include bathing once in a couple of days,Don’t get me wrong the hostels don’t stink or anything, but the fact remains that Quite a lot of boys don’t sleep for more than 3-4 hours, hence the need for bathing never arises,What are Deos and face washes supposed to be for ? :P

THE LAKE:

How could i even forget to mention the GITAM lake ??

It is the most popular hang out spot for us,and we simply love the scenic beauty,it is a pity,We will be missing it after the Dusherra vacation,Since the wall is coming up :(

IN THE END….

I was but not fully satisfied with GITAM in the first place, but three months down the road,my opinion has kind of changed, guess this hold true for any college/institution,and GITAM is no different .

Three months have passed away and it is time for me to gear up for my semester end exams,I had a good time writing this article(Do watch out for my articles in the upcoming newsletter, which unlike this article isn’t anonymous :D)

Freedom Zone:Random thoughts..

True. Sometimes it scares me to just see how everything just turns out to be so horrible. Agreed, mid’s were sad..! For those few found paper was a little bit easy (they sure got a shock of their lives seeing their so-called marks). Wow, the correction was *pathetic* in simple language..! ‘C’ is goanna be one such a subject people will hate after the mid’s(at least I will if it were me). And as expected the combination of math’s and chem on the same was even scary.

All we got to see were sad faces everywhere (including all those first bench muggers who got 27/30 and were still feeling really bad) *Dude., 27 is after all a great mark compared to what we all scored, so just shut the crap up!*. Sometimes people can really be this random, trust me..!

But yeah finally, one cant expect us to keeping mourning over all these, so here we were in the old canteen(our dear old canteen) trying to keep up our sprits. Although it was exclusively opened for the hostlers, they don’t get even enough space to sit over there. (All thanks to dear Verma sir). True, the food is pretty good in the new canteen, but it somehow doesn’t feel homely (well, nothing feels homely here if you’re a hostler). And with all the mad and useless restrictions in the hostels its become difficult to stay there any longer.

  • Report to the hostel before 6
  • You can go for an outing only twice a month (holy shit).! How the hell will I imagine I will have an emergency before hand in the next week so I wont go for an outing this week.? Swear our directors are very intelligent(they really are)
  • Don’t climb the terrace. Reason: you might slip and fall down (how random can that be.?)
  • Don’t sit out, don’t do this, don’t do that, do nothing. Now its irritating..!

Putting these random problems aside, the only other subject with is being discussed is the ‘Freshers’..! Anywhere you go, any one you see discussing, its only about this. Lets see how this event will turn out..! and since this time the seniors will give freshers to the jr’s., I personally hope it really turns out good..

Freedom Zone:Memories from the past..

Freedom Zone:

We are back again, with our ex previously defunct category, “Freedom Zone”,for all the newbie readers in here ,let us just put together what this category does is all about :),Freedom zone is the personal space being provided by lifeatgitamhyd for the students of GITAM University Hyderabad to expresses there writings, the posts which don’t necessarily fall into any of the established categories of LAGH(SCOOP!!,Blog lashing etc) ,and don’t necessarily deal with a particular day,  find a place in the  reactivated category called Freedom Zone.

Note:

If the response to such articles is good ,We don’t mind getting a sub domain for Freedom Zone articles :).

The Article:Memories from the past..

Like everyone even I had dreams about my college. The way its gonna be., the way I am gonna enjoy it. And being very truthful, this college never topped my list. I got into this college may be because of my fate. And at first I really cursed my fate as well. There were reasons behind it as well. First was that I had none of my friends here. Every one was new to me. When I passed through the roads leading to this campus, I cursed my fate even more. Reason was too practical, there isn’t any place to even bunk if you wanted to in this university. And as usual the first few days were pretty horrible(as expected). I just dint feel like talking to any one. I was missing my people, my friends here. It somehow dint feel good to me. Being alone, just to myself and weeping every single night I came across this happy set of people who were just like me. It was then I meet these friends of mine. They reminded me of the fun I used to have with my friends. It was then that I realized that this place is pretty good and I can find people of my frequency if I just made an attempt. I began the journey to this college with a gloomy and sad smile on my face. But when I now look back, I find my self so stupid for having behaved this way. It somehow brings a sweet smile on my face to recollect all those stupid memories.

This university, though its pretty small it sure has people who are really very awesome. Never met friends like these. I am sure that even my best friends wouldn’t pamper me the way these people do. Have you ever laughed so much on something that’s so random that your stomach actually begins to hurt and you can do nothing else but just curse the person who started it silently.? We do this almost every day here. Many think we are mad, but they will never understand what it means to forget all your worries and just laugh feeling so relived. The fun we have during the class, in the canteen, on our way back home, birthday bash, staying awake all most the whole night talking nothing but crap, making fun of every other  person, walking in the rains( a real walk to remember),teasing my bestest buddies, everything is really very memorable. Never have I thought in my dizziest day dreams that one day I will finally start loving this place and the people in it. The only thing I realized here is that, the campus doesn’t always play a major role. But the thing that matters more is the people in it. If they are simple awesome then we will cherish these moments for a life time. But if we keep creeping about the days here, we will neither enjoy the days nor will we have any memories to cherish further. This place has given me bag full of memories in just two months and I swear I would want to cherish every single moment of it all my life. Scenic beauty of this village is very soothing. It washes away all your pains and gives you the real happiness. After, everything is on how one looks at this place. My prospective about this place is really changed now. I tend to like this place now. Well, why shouldn’t I.? I have got everything I wanted. After all, college life is all about having fun and I am having it to the fullest.
