SCOOP!!:Boys Hostel,Reading Room.

Many students have been lobbying to get a decent reading room for the boys hostel, and the management has finally decided to pay head to our needs.

POST DUSHERA:

After the hostel reopened for the post-dushera session, the major developments “promised”,were not implemented like the Wi-Fi ,and stuff.

But,reading room was always something which was always solely in the hands of the management.

The hard work of many students, especially the seniors and not to forget the Wardens(Vijay Shekar Sir and Patrudu sir),who have been pushing forward for the reading room since ages.

NEVERTHELESS…

With the exams around the corner, they are but still only about 30 days away, the addition of the reading room(late, but nevertheless here :)) to the Hostel will surely help those students who find it difficult to read in the company of others,or simply want a getaway from the hustle bustle of hostel life,to study/read.

MOVING IN..

Photo0005 Photo0006

DETAILS:

As of now, reports indicate that two long table has been moved from the campus to the boys hostel, the reading room will either be located in the Second floor(The room has a TV which is not being used) or the third floor(vacant floor),but the probability of the reading room being the B Block can’t be ruled out.

OPEN:

The reading room is expected to be opened in a couple of days after the tables are cleaned and arrangements made for chairs as well as cleaning the room.

More details of the Reading room will follow.

ID Card mandatory..:( DAY:26/10/2010

INTRODUCTION:

Waking up early in the morning has always been an issue with most of the students be it in GITAM or else where.

The day for most of us starts, with rushing about the daily routine(food/bath then brush) ,forgetting the minute but important things, like carrying the ID card!!!

OLD RULE:

The management of GITAM University Hyderabad campus, has finally decided to play it the hard with making the ID cards mandatory, with only one available entrance for the campus,a student(as of now),can’t escape the clutches of the security guards who are simply reluctant to send us in if we don’t have the ID cards.

The problem is that this rule was never in play during the time of our seniors, and there was very little review of the rule, except for a couple of months in the starting,by some faculty members, later on it was all like “lite”.

But,now since a strong force of 1000+ juniors have made a way into the campus which is well crowded, the management has probably thought it better to strictly implement some rules.

F.A.Q:

Why the rule ?

Simple:Every college has it :P

But Why Now ?

It has been three months since the start of the year/semester,but them management was never so hell bent on the rule,we absolutely have no clue over why the management has suddenly decided to act so tough.

DUAL CHECKPOINT:

The worst part is that every student has to go through the ID check twice(If you are planning to attend the classes ,else once if you are bunking :P),so if you do get to slip the first point either being part of a large group or simply making a believable “bahana”(excuse),but only once in case of seniors,as their buses are allowed into the campus, unlike our junior buses.

BUNK MASTERS:

We expect quite a lot of readers following us to be waiting for the article titled “Golden rules of Bunking”,which is going to be published soon.

Those who do plan to bunk periods in the early session don’t have to go through the check only once near the gate.

RAIDS ON “HANGOUTS”!!!

No we are definitely not talking about either IT raids or stuff like that ,we are talking about “raids” by faculty members on students hangouts, okay we were a little bit melodramatic, but come on it definitely wasn’t a PJ :P.

Some faculty member walked into the canteen and was shoving out students from there, and within 10-15 mins the canteen was absolutely empty, when normally it would have been bubbling with energy.

And where did we go ??

We had no option other than heading back to the classes(been ticked off by our lectures for being late,Who instead of being pleased that we at least turned up for the classes, than scolding us for being late..!!

They don’t understand the traumatic pressure we go through attending their lectures,on dumb topics..:(

Bless those clever souls who were able to find other hideouts on the campus, which isn’t pretty large btw,and subsequently the faculty hit most of the common places, but Hey there are about 6-7 places which still remain exclusive to students :)

The list of exclusive students  bunking places, will be sent via SMS,spread over a period of time, via our GOOGLE SMS CHANNEL.Please register yourself.

RECORD WORK!!

Why do we need records ??

On top of that they need to be backed by “Sincere” observation books(Don’t ask us what the faculty means by it,they just say it!!).

A random poll conducted by LAGH reveals that C record is the most popular of the record works, and closely followed by Mech/Phy , Chem,CAD.

And not to forget the GD(Geometrical drawing) for Mech and civil students, which is pretty complicated thanks to all the drawing, using weird instruments which we left behind in our 10th grade(Remember the geometry boxes ? :)).

With Lab internals lurking around the corner, every gitamite is seen busy with various records, completing them in the canteen(bunking periods, mind you!),or waking up at 2 in the night to complete the pending work.

TO make this even more bad we have the other two headaches “continued lab internal assessment” and “observation book”,which make life at GITAM university Hyderabad even more difficult.

MASS BUNK ??

MBA seniors, were probably on a mass bunk today, with only 4-5 of them being spotted on campus, where did they head too,no idea!!

lifeatgitamhyd.

catastrophe Strikes…!!! DAY:24/10/10

INTRODUCTION:

A Sunday morning, and most of the hostellers wake up pretty late at about 9:30-10,but this Sunday wouldn't be like any other Sunday, due to the various events surrounding the Boys hostel.

Photo0065

The building which collapsed in the early hours today ,belongs to a landlord who is quite rich, and the College of Management(Those who don’t know the story and history of the building will call it a pharmacy college, but the fact is it isn't a pharmacy college, but a management one :))

According to the data  present in Wikimapia, the college is called Goud’s College of Management.

The Past:

The owner of the building in question is supposed to have been waiting for this to happen, the story of the birth and death of this building/college is pretty filmy  but true, according to the village sources.

The story has it that since the owner had plenty of black money he wanted to convert it all into liquid cash or call it “white” money.

So he started constructing this building/college close to 3-4 yrs ago, spending a couple of lakhs but showing bills worth double the amount it is the filmy style ,which you always see in loads of movies where the Bad guy  tries to convert all the black money into unable money, and tries all the possible means.

this is a good example of one of it.

Photo0318

FUNCTIONAL:

One look at the buildings and you can be shit sure that it was meant to crash down, the pillars are way to thin to support a single slab forget about the two slabs which were raised.

Seeing it since the past three months, anyone could have easily guessed that the college was never meant to have been functional, since hardly any construction work has taken place in the last three months.

SENIORS:

A small chat with our seniors and they reveal that the construction of the building hardly progressed since there first year.

Those who have visited the college confirm that it is indeed a management college.

THE CRASH:

Each and every rudraramite, has got his/her own story on the way the building crashed and the time of crash.

Tough many claim that the building might have come down about 1:00’ odd.

But after a rudimentary research by the LAGH  team,we would like to place the crash time at about 3:30 to 4:45 p.m.

THE DOMINO EFFECT:

Photo0315

The building crashed down in the wee hours of today morning, and it was accompanied by a “Thud”sound, which many villagers heard even those who were located at the other end of the Village, but we gitamites/hostellers hardly hear a whisper, this surprised many villagers  they probably don’t know that many of the us in the hostel hit the bed around 2:30-3:00 and once we hit the beds you can blow trumpets near our ear,but we will never wake up :P.

Photo0316

DETAILS:

It is pretty pre-mature to come out with the minute details and the exact timeline of the events, and we prefer having some basic ground work done on the incident prior to publishing the timeline of the incident. :)

BIRDS EYE VIEW:

Photo0067

The terrace of the boys hostel was abuzz with activity for most part of the day with most of the students coming up to have a birds eye view of the building, and it was a sight to see,no one has ever seen such a structure collapse, and that too ,up,close and personal.

Nokia x3_0168

THE BREAKFAST:

The discussion at most of the tables today morning, wasn’t the about the food( Dosa’s,which were very delicious and We would also like to commend the excellent chutney served with it :)),but it was the missing neighbour of the boys hostel, and everyone had some theory or the other.

Note:Sorry,no pictures of the dosa :(

       Photo0066

THE LAKE CONNECTION:

This part(the one which collapsed in the below picture) of the building is supposed to have been built on the area which was previously covered by the lake(We call it the GITAM  lake),this is also the most effected part of the building Relatively, mind you :))

CAUSE:

This is the best part,We present a stunning five point explanation for the crash of the building.

  • Heavy rains/Wind.
  • Earthquake.
  • Conspiracy to tap into the insurance.
  • Devils handy work(Yes the boys hostel also experienced the haunted stories :P)
  • terrible construction

RAIN!!

image

The first choice and most probably the fact, even thought the rain which lashed the village last night wasn’t all that powerful, the rainy season has been very harsh around here in rudraram, the prolonged lashing of the rains ,might have weakened the structure as a whole, complimented by the pathetic construction work/low quality material used, the building crashed down.

EARTHQUAKE:

The comic cause of all the causes,Earthquake.

It is simply not possible, since the boys hostel didn’t even feel a tremor, forget tremors there isn't a single new crack for the boys hostel, and right adjacent to the boys hostel a whole building came down due to an apparent earthquake!!

241020101060

CONSPIRACY:

The owner of the building was waiting for it to happen.

The locals of rudraram, shared with LAGH under confidentially, that the owner might have played foul, and brought the building down, over a prolonged process,by using low quality material and everything for the reasons mentioned above, which are the conversion of black money to white.

This is quite possible, since the construction is pretty bad,and a member of LAGH who is a student of the Civil department, thought a novice in the field of construction, shared his view on the building.

The way the building is built ,is against the basic concept of bringing up a structure.

It is totally flawed, and even a layman can notice it.

DEVILS HANDY WORK:

This is even more comical, but a reasons never the less since they are quite some “believers” of the Ghost stories, which haunt this part of Rudraram.

Chop!!Chop!!

Ghosts don’t exists, but the theory is fun,may be Flying Fisherman(Those who directed the haunted Stories ),may team up with LAGH productions, and bring out a detailed documentary on this incident :P.

241020101059

WHAT LAGH BELIEVES..

A combination of all these factors,(void the earthquake/haunted theories),mostly contributed by the way the building was construed ,is the reason the building collapsed.

CONCLUSION:

The hostellers are now confident, that the GITAM management did put up a good structure, and they are housed in a safe structure,or so they believe..:P

Bunks,New sport,Old Canteen:Still alive !! DAY:20/10/2010

Contrary to the reports that the old canteen has been in political turmoil, the fact is that the old canteen is under  actual renovation.

Scan our old SCOOP!! files and you will find an old file named AC canteen, which was due by June/July,2010,but it never materialised.

Rest assured gitamites, the work is back and the old canteen will now be pepped up with AC units(Yay!!)

ROUGH WATERS:

he old canteen has been bleeding since the new canteen opened, amidst much fanfare and the way the new canteen quickly pulled up it socks and introduced loads of new items, and everything the old canteen couldn't offer.

It the saw downfall of the old canteen, yes profits were coming in but sources put in that the margins were pretty slim, and the old canteen since then has been sailing in rough waters, maybe the AC will play a crucial role in pulling itself up from the dirt, but the fact that Winter is going to start,it doesn't really matter.

WORK UNDER WAY:

The work is expected to last about 10-15 days, give or take a few.

While the work is underway the old canteen won’t be functioning.

MAD RUSH!!

Since, the old canteen is temporarily closed, the full strength of students are using the new canteen premises, which implies the canteen is totally packed during lunch hours, hardly giving anyone space to breath!

NEW SPORT “MARAMPETE”:

Call it whatever you want but it is one of the undisputed best games of our  childhood times, and prior to breaking from the routine campus life for the Dushera vacation,we saw the EEE seniors start off this hugely popular Indian game,on a very large scale, occupying close to 70% of the ground, and they were definitely having a good game.

Someone none of the previous posts covered this, but this sports deserves the place, since it made a come back today!!

BUNKS!!!

Arguably the best part of any engineering students life is the bunking part, and what makes bunking fun if it doesn't come attached with a sense of exciting or the sound of music a students has to face when caught bunking.

Who all were bunking today ??

Everyone who hated maths, phy,C programming ,blah blah!!! ,were bunking today.

Most of the afternoon session the ground was a buzz with activity/sports of some kind of the other, but the bunking spectrum was clearly dominated by the CSE dept(Seniors and Juniors, Unity ? You bet !! ),and then it was the turn of the Civil Sections to showcase their unity, followed by Mech and the rest of the branches contributed very few students to the ground.

CONCLUSION:

The day ended on a pretty beautiful note, with the sun setting over the campus, which was a picturesque moment, pity Shutterbugs contributors were probably not able to capture it,but if the pictures do come in we will publish them :)

Regards,

lifeatgitamhyd.

SCOOP!!:Heritage Parlour

DETAILS:

  • (assumed)INVESTMENT  : 1-2 lakhs.

  • EXPECTED ON                : October,2010

  • STATUS                         :  Waiting to start operations

  • DEADLOCK                     :  None

    CURTAIN RAISER:

In one of the most important development in the life of GITAM University, the arrival of the Heritage parlour will make the campus a better place to be a part of,yes the long due Subway will easily topple this development, but there are reasons to believe that the opening of the heritage Parlour will signal a change of campus life.

    image                                                                                                                     ESTEEM:

Let it be put frankly,as of now Hyderabad gitamites don't have anything good to brag about their college.

Yes the centrally air-conditioned building can be flaunted upon, but when we ourselves know that it doesn't work in the upper realms of GITAM University(Read as: above the 3rd floor, which are void of AC vents forget about AC working!).

As and when the heritage parlour comes the students will finally have an opportunity to flaunt about their Branded (Ice cream) parlour.

Which other colleges, have such stuff on campus ?

Well,in the next couple of weeks, the campus is sure to grow into its avatar of a University.

    WHY HERITAGE?

Well,GITAM and heritage both are backed by TDP,and this is reasons enough to get the heritage parlour on campus, the assurance of a good price, and partial subsidization of the prices(if not now,at least in the future),makes heritage a safe beat.

It also makes business sense to the heritage guys since they get an exclusive market of 1000 students(Most of whom are heavy spenders :P),and added to that the Hostellers who number about 400 members, many of whom rush to Isnapur for dairy products, won’t have to look anywhere.

    PRODUCTS:

Sources confirm that initially the heritage parlour will be housing a limited range of products, but with the business picking up,the heritage parlour will bring all the contents of its regular pan-India range of products.

The highlighted products are a sure shot :

    • Full Cream milk
    • Toned Milk
    • Cow Milk UHT Milk (Tetra pack)
    • Butter
    • Fresh Cream
    • Curd (Cup & Pouch)
    • Flavoured Milk ( Bottles & Tetra packs )
    • Butter Milk
    • Lassi
    • Doodhpeda Ice Cream
    • Bread
    • Cookies

Waiting to set our eyes on the parlour :)

    Regards,

    lifeatgitamhyd.

    GITAM University : Re-loaded !!(??)

Note:As you all known visible developments have always been a concern with respect to GITAM University Hyderabad campus,So if these developments don’t materialise,We at LAGH have decided to use the same post over and over for the Diwali vacation, and Semester break(Sankranthi vacation),Since it is pointless to compile the same thing all over again :P

GITAM University Hyderabad Campus: Reloaded !!

    Really??

Well, not for sure, but our sources rooted deep into the systems of GITAM University, have confirmed that the Hyderabad campus management is struggling hard  to gear up the Campus for a post-Dusheera session,As a net savvy team we would like to call it GITAM 2.0,and in this post we seek to go into the depth of various “new”(pun intended!) stat ups, which will be seen on campus(As usual,We expect our readers to realise that we are dealing with an entity called GITAM University,Which from our past three months observation, has had a director who promises the stars to us,but doesn't even give us dirt!!,So these are what we are expecting, and don’t hold us at ransom if they don’t materialise :P )

    DEVELOPMENTS:

The list of new start-up's include the long pending issues of Subway which our dear old director promised, like what an year ago to our beloved Seniors ?,and yet to materialise,We are under the impression that, the Subway might,Might be up in the post-Dusheera Avatar of GITAM.

The other sure shot stuff include:

    • Heritage parlour
    • Union bank of India(ATM and bank)
    • Wi-Fi(GITAM Hostels included )
    • New play area(GITAM boys hostels)
    • Library expansion
    • Student Lockers

    HERITAGE PARLOUR:

    image

The heritage parlour is expected to come up with about 50% of its regular offering, and once the business sees a good turnover, more products will be added to it.

The heritage parlour is projected to be located in the new canteen premises.

For more details,we will be running an exclusive coverage over the heritage of heritage foods, and also an extensive list of products which will make inroads to the Hyderabad Campus,in the next couple of days :D

    UNION BANK OF INDIA:

    image

The bank is here,at least in its virtual form, the Union bank forms have been doing the rounds among the faculty(Who also received their International Debit cards/ATM cards),while the students are still filling up the forms.

The hostellers were the first set of students to receive the form, and most of them are yet to submit them.

The good thing is that the prospect of Union bank setting shop isn’t as bleak as it was a couple of months ago.

The structure, which is set to house the Union bank ,is ready and fully decked up to serve the students of GITAM University Hyderabad Campus, the previous deal to have Indian bank has been scrapped  due to unknown reasons.

The ATM vending machines, and the furniture is  expected to arrive after Dusheera.

    WI-FI:

Wi-Fi,yes the seniors got the privilege(at least some senior classrooms ),of having a CISCO router in their classrooms, the juniors are yet to spot on,but the sources say that the projected 50 access points will be up and functional, once the campus reopens.

    HOSTEL:

Coming to the internet connectivity of the hostel, the girls hostel is set to have 4 CISCO routers, and the boys hostel on the other hand will have about 12 routers.

With a speed of 300 mbps, the Wi-Fi can be used by more than 3,000 people at any given time through 50 access points on the campus(Including Hostels we presume). The Hyderabad campus is connected to the Visakhapatnam campus which is connected to the internet with a speed of 1000 mbps.

    PLAY AREA-LANDSCAPING:

Another massive extension for the GITAM boys hostel, the area between the Block B and the Mess has been converted into a play area.

The landscaping of both the main campus as well as the hostels is under way,the roads are to be laid but, will this all happen before we open the doors again, still remains to see,We desperately want to see it happen :)

The landscaping/construction plan for hostels include:

    • Road
    • Pavement
    • Green cover
    • Compound walls :((

    STUDENTS LOCKERS:

    godrej-interio_logo

GITAM University is all set to house a large number of  lockers first to be implemented for the Seniors.

The demand for personal lockers has been long standing, and finally answered by the management of GITAM University, here to the management has decided not to compromise on the quality and has gone in for one of the best makers of personal lockers,Godrej interio.

The brochure for the lockers can be had from here,Click Here.

Yes the corridors will all be packed up,but that is the only draw back for this new facility :)

    LIBRARY EXPANSION:

This has been due for a very long time, the Library and reading room will now be combined into one entity.

this will pave way for the library to house more tables, and more racks to hold the books which are all placed on the tables.

Not many will be interested in this development, but it is  nevertheless a development :P

    Regards,

    lifeatgitamhyd

Note:Some of you gitamites, and ardent followers of LAGH will be aware of  these developments from our SCOOP!! articles, this article is published to given an insight to the campus updates for our newbie readers, and also to keep the blog active while at it :D

Can I meet/talk with other Shutterbugs Contributors ?

    Yup..!!

LAGH already has a platform for communication where ,contributors/mods/admins of Shutterbugs can relate to and talk.

    Not even close!!

We never specified any such regulations,If you observe some of our first pictures to be hosted on the blog, were all clicked from a mobile Camera!!

WHY IN THE F**KING WORLD DID YOU WATERMARK MY IMAGE?????

    Okay cool it..!!

it is a very simple thing,As you see, plagiarism  has been effecting the blogging world and copyrights a lot..!

For example:The following blogs ripped apart quite some content from Lifeatgitamhyd, with no due credit to it.

    www.it-gitamhyd.blogspot.com : http://it-gitamhyd.blogspot.com/2010/02/sad-starting-for-month.html

    www.gitambuddies.blogspot.com : http://gitambuddies.blogspot.com/p/meet-us-at.html (a Copy of http://www.lifeatgitamhyd.com/p/contact-us.html)

So We need something to protect our copyright work from the bad people on blogosphere, hence we use a Watermark.

Btw,We usually don’t watermark images if we think,it will spoil the look of the picture :)

And if you still hate,it then tell us ,we will be obliged to remove it :)

Hey!I sent a zillion  pictures, but you only published some of them ? :(

We employ a process of screening,in which we segregate the good from the bad and the worst, most of the time the good make it onto the blog.

    What about the worst ?

They go into the trash,or else we can have a feature “How not to click pictures” and post it there :)

    IS that all ?

    For now yes :)

    Freedom Zone: Three Months….!!

I walked in expecting very little from my new found home, located in this small village called as Rudraram,Which I have never heard of before,Nor did the name of the mandal Patancheru, look friendly to me,I have always heard of Patahncehru to be a place filled with loads and loads of Industries, and the moment I heard the name, the  thing which struck me was pollution,as patancheru was always in the paper in connection with pollution, and the prospect of having to study in such a place for the next four years looked like a terrible idea to me.

The pictures of the campus found on LAGH didn’t help me much either,a semi-constructed building with all the works pending, made me dizzy, but since the options for me were very limited, given my extremely large rank in EAMCET ,and below par performance in AIEEE (Don't even think about IIT-JEE!!),the only option left was GITAM,yes other Deemed Universities like VIT,SRM,MIT were an option,And I did end up with some not so good scores there, but since my parents were reluctant to (thanks to my past,I was caught watching porn in my 7th grade, obviously after this My dad would never let me out of his sight,And I never pushed forward for VIT/SRM etc :)).send me outstation, GITAM seemed the only sane option left and I had to but take the step forward, and I must confess I was very brave in taking admission into this institution.

    ADMISSIONS:

The admission, process was complete in a jiffy since I was clear on what I wanted from the start ,My choice of branch and  Campus(Hyd/Vskp),was pretty clear from the Start.

I wanted Civil, and that is what I got,and while everyone in the counselling centre was busy deciding whether to choose the Hyd campus or the VSKP campus,I was clearly focused on the Hyderabad campus, not because it was so fucking “fascinating”,but because I had no other option.

The admission procedure was over in a jiffy, and the classes were set to begun on the 10th of July,But I decided to come on the 15th of July .

    67297_133375683378544_100001183386657_164427_2627497_n

    BUS RIDE:

Living about 58 km away from the campus,I hated the prospect of having to travel in these rickety old RTC buses all the way from my currently dwelling  near DSNR to Rudraram.

A  month of the never ending travel in these buses which move at snails space(and the added burden of back pain ) I am still cursing the luck of my seniors,as they get to travel in better buses and cover the distance  in better time too, they don’t have to wait for their buses to come from some depot, nor do they have to bear the water leaks from the bus windows/top.(Yes!During the rainy season the RTC bus used to leak!!),I then decided to bid farewell to these darn buses, and moved into the Hostel.

    HOSTEL LIFE:

The first month of my hostel life was the month of August, and wait till I share the worst  part of my hostel life.

I was given a room in the first floor, which was vacated by a EEE student,I did take some time to get used to the way guys lived in the hostel.Suddenly I found myself in the company of 300 other guys,I felt strange and doubted my orientation for a second,What in the fucking world was I doing in a room with three other guys, who roam around in their Shorts, and most of the time semi-nude in the hostel room, this seemed to be the norm in my wing on the first floor, while the other two floors were more or less sensible when it came to clothing.

But as the time passed,I realized why people in the hostel liked moving around in shorts,it was a very simple reason, the comfort given by shorts is pretty great and simply phenomenal, and to hell with what others think about it(What !! everyone including our seniors act as if they are the brand ambassadors of Shorts!).

Getting used to roaming around in Shorts in the hostel was pretty easy, but the difficult part came in when I  had to get used to this concept of the common bathroom and loos thingy, these washrooms weren’t as lame as they show in movies, the bathrooms were relatively tidy,And since I was mentally prepared for the worst kind of bathrooms, the bathrooms kind of made me feel okay,But I am still getting used to this concept of common bathrooms.

    GROUPIES:

I have herd that the concept of groups being formed on the basics of caste was pretty predominant in the Vizag campus, even thought the caste equation was pretty low in the Hyderabad campus,I was already aware of some groups formed by some of the senior students like,Crusaders,Saints,Freaks etc, these names are etched in the classroom benches(Okay,I did also read about them in LAGH,but I saw these names on the benches of the senior classrooms during the counselling time),and my fellow juniors were not far behind, with various group names like ,MIB(yeah,Men in Black),Frontiers ,Venice(Gawd..!! That is the name of a place for heavens sake!),Rebels etc,the groupies thing took to wings, but this was on a lower order, and never gained popularity.

This kind of amused me,since the concept of groups was totally insane, but them When were humans ever sane ? :P

    MESS BILL:

One month in the hostel, and a disaster fell upon me,I had to do the hard task of conveying my first ever hostel bill to my parents at Rs 5315(Since I used the Dhobi who is fucking awful at his work!),I was pretty confused if joining the hostel was a good idea.

But,After the wardens(Who are the best a hostel can have!) took to the aim of brining the mess bill down to sub 5,000,I was kind of relived,And they were successful at bringing the bill down it is now at 4,700 (at least for me :))

    SPORTS:

Back home,All I used to do was surf surf and surf the internet, outdoor activates were very limited, but since the hostels doesn’t have a Wi-Fi,nor do Wireless devices like Reliance net connect,Tata photon+  work in Rudraram.most of the time you are Either playing Shuttle or Cricket, and if you are lucky you get to play Table Tennis(Very rarely,it is a zone where seniors rule! :P),and loads of other activities, and games my most favourite one being the Water Rugby day!

    HAUNTED STORIES:

People are gonna ask me about this for sure,Are ghosts for real ?

Let me tell you all this haunting of the hostel shit,is a story cooked up by some people including LAGH along with some movie makers, decided to capitalize on the issue, and they were very successful at it,Once the video went online, the next day I was bombarded with questions about the “Female Ghosts”,which were haunting the hostels.

I was at a loss of words, since I had no clue about the haunted Stories trailer, but the video was pretty credible and I had a hard task explaining my classmates, that Ghosts don’t exists in the hostels!!,and they were just rumours, doesn't anyone seriously read the disclaimer or What ?

[For those who don’t know about it Check YouTube For haunted stories By LAGH.]

    Random Stuff:

Other random stuff which form a part of my hostel life include bathing once in a couple of days,Don’t get me wrong the hostels don’t stink or anything, but the fact remains that Quite a lot of boys don’t sleep for more than 3-4 hours, hence the need for bathing never arises,What are Deos and face washes supposed to be for ? :P

    THE LAKE:

How could i even forget to mention the GITAM lake ??

It is the most popular hang out spot for us,and we simply love the scenic beauty,it is a pity,We will be missing it after the Dusherra vacation,Since the wall is coming up :(

      IMG_3291_thumb

    IN THE END….

I was but not fully satisfied with GITAM in the first place, but three months down the road,my opinion has kind of changed, guess this hold true for any college/institution,and GITAM is no different .

Three months have passed away and it is time for me to gear up for my semester end exams,I had a good time writing this article(Do watch out for my articles in the upcoming newsletter, which unlike this article isn’t anonymous :D)

    The Showdown:DAY:08/10/2010.

GITAM University Hyderabad has seen it all right from hosting a Football match over 2 days (The first official Football match on campus :P), to conducting classes in semi-constructed classrooms, and now it is the time for a new “feather”(Sarcasm at its best :P),in its cap.

The cricket tournament which was held in connection with the Independence day celebration, finally concluded today, after close to 45 days(That is well over a month !!),But the good news is that ,it finally did happen, thanks to our good P.D,who had to push the proposal hard to get the match conducted, what with exams around the corner.

    THE MATCH:

The match witnessed the clash of CSE(seniors),and the Mech(A) which walked in as favourites, given that it showcased exceptional  performance in sports(It won the Volleyball cup)and put up a good fight in Football.

The match which was scheduled to start in the afternoon session, started  at about 11’ odd,and this last minute change, caused a low turnout initially.

As the message spread that the final match started, coupled with our SMS Channel alert, the crowd slowly picked up,We did all we could to spread the word, but not many braved to watch the match due to the heat .

    FIRST INNINGS:

The match started off with the CSE batsmen taking to the filed, and two overs down the road,Mech looked all in control, and the score was moving up very slowly with the run rate at about 7,for a team which is known for its power packed line up(It has history of hitting 120-130 odd runs in a 10 over match!),the Mech team looked formidable.

Even thought, the start was slow, amidst some clumsy fielding, and above average  bowling on part of the Mech Dept, the CSE seniors put up a score of 87 runs in 12 over's.

The other things, which went against the CSE team is that,it has been over 45 days since they took part in a match as a team, while the Mech team won a match yesterday evening, and were in a good form, carrying forward the momentum into this match, energetic since they were backed with the strong support of Juniors from various quarters, along with the massive turnout of the Mech dept(the B section guys were extremely loud in their support!!),and most of the juniors were backing the Junior team.

And the senior team, had more at stake to risk if it would have lost the match than the junior team, since By wining the Match the seniors could make a statement and prove that seniors will remain seniors, and we juniors will have to remain their juniors, and respect them, without hurting our self respect, since any wrong move on their part can result in hordes of juniors r*p*ing them apart :D(Just kidding),Coming back to the match.

The target of 88 in 12 overs, looked like a cake walk with batsmen like Ramakanth (Mech A),who earned a name for himself,of being one of the best batsmen on campus, and a heavy hitter.

    SECOND INNINGS:

A loud round of applause greeted the Mech Dept, when it took to the field, louder than the kind of pomp CSE dept received when they walked in the first innings(Due to the presence of a large number of audience)

After the first couple of overs,(hen the fourth over started with 42 to win from 8 overs) winning seemed to be a distant team for the senior team, but the tables changed once the sixth over started, with a couple of wickets down in a particular over, the game looked evenly posed, and even Paul(the octopus) wouldn’t have guessed the result for sure :P.

Slowly the game seemed to move in favour of the seniors, with some exceptional fielding and  bowling in the last four overs, another major role could have been  the cheering Dept. of CSE which introduced close to 50-60 odd CSE junior supporters, who were pretty loud, and since the game was titling towards the CSE team, more juniors followed suite, suddenly the cheering for Mech was a mere whisper compared to the tremendous support the Seniors team received, not to forget that being seniors, they also got support from their fellow batch mates :D,Enough of this shitty Cheering stuff, back to the game!!(Again!!)

With the wickets falling down in succession, and the fielding of the CSE team improving, the rear of the mech Dept, was shattered into pieces, since the batsmen themselves were able to meet the pressure, the rear couldn't but face the heat.

In the last over, the Mech team had to score about 18-20 runs ,and this was a direct implication that the match was a goner.

The last ball of the match, and the Mech team was in utter shambles, with 6 runs to win,They could but only wish for a Laagan styled final ball, which failed to materialize ,and they had to bow down to the seniors, not because they were seniors but since they deserved to win,all due to the way they changed the game.

    CELEBRATIONS:

The celebrations never stop once they start, and both the teams were seen celebrating, the seniors especially seemed to have hung around the canteens right from the time they won the match till the evening, thought the Mech students were disappointed, they had reasons to celebrate, there hard work didn’t go in vain :)

    UMPIRES:

This match will also be remembered as one of those which had some very bad decisions made, especially by the leg umpires, who were totally oblivious of the fact that a match was going,in the Second Innings, and that too for a final match we could have done with some better guys in place of the current leg umpires, but then the game is over.

    LOW TURNOUT:

The low turnout can be attributed,to the vacation mood which has kicked in,and the general strength of the campus itself was relatively low,but this didn’t in any way deter the progress of the match :)

    CONCLUSION:

The day ended on a bright note, and CSE was crowned the king of Cricket, the most popular game on campus.

    Clubs on a roll..!!….DAY:05/10/2010

After a long hiatus the concept of students clubs is back, after its brief sting last year, when various seniors took up the initiative in the better half of their Second semester, according to the previous posts of lifeatgitamhyd (Do check up our archives) ,but the plans to have the clubs fell apart, and since the start of the science club “ Anveshi ” on 28th of September(Which is rumoured to be under controversies ),being headed by Dr.Madhuri (Chemistry Dept.),the other clubs like Social welfare club, which was inaugurated on 29th of September.(We will try our best at LAGH,to keep abreast with all the works of these clubs, and a separate category to look into these  posts ),it was the time of the unnamed Quarterly magazine of GITAM University Hyderabad Campus ,And we will be at the helm of affairs to track the developments here too…

    SOCIAL WELFARE CLUB:

The student representatives of the social welfare clubs meet today,at about 3:30 odd to discuss the  further course of action of the Social Welfare club, which is aimed at giving back a lot to the society, the fact that a couple of students tried to dominate the meet was evident ,and they will be held responsible for their actions, and we project that better days lie ahead for the social welfare club, even thought the club may undergo some initial turmoil, due to the attitude of some of the juniors, who are taking the club for granted ,it won’t be long before these students get kicked out,and the Club is back on track.

Some of the objectives of the Social Welfare Club are listed below:

    • Tree Plantation
    • Blood Donation
    • Books donation

We wish the club to perform well, and the “hyper-active” members, please do note that it has just been about a week since the club started, and you should, but not expect to perform miracles in such a short span of time.

That summarises the issues with respect to the social welfare club.

    THE NEWSLETTER/MAGAZINE:

The Vizag campus of GITAM University launched a magazine called In focus which lasted only one issues, even thought we don’t know what caused it to close down, from an observers point of view,we can simply call it a failure,And it was more like a promotional stunt, and failed to carry forward the momentum (Hold on,did anyone know that a magazine called Infocus existed ?).

Now,GITAM University Hyderabad campus, aims to create a Newsletter/Magazine ,and it is being headed by Mr.Chandrasekhar (English Dept.),the magazine is still in a premature stage, and it will not be wise to comment on it,since the first meeting was held today.

    THE EDITORIAL TEAM:

The Editorial team, comprises of close to 15 students and about 10 Faculty members, and the selection of the students advisors was more or less unbiased, and since the whole team is not rigid, that is subject to change for the next quarter based on their performance ,the current students will have an option either to perform or to move out from the team, this system will create a competitive environment, which will work in the further development of the  Magazine.

    THE FEATURES:

Sources quote that the magazine will comprise of 65-70 % for students contributions, and the rest will be for the Faculty members, this seems to be a good equation on the paper, but How far will the targets be achieved still remains to be seen.

With the launch date set to  the 5th of November, the team will surely have a hard time to stick to the deadline, since the first draft will have to completed at least a week before the official launch of the magazine.

Here follows a tentative list of all the segments of the magazine :

    • Achievements of the students/Faculty.
    • Activities of various Clubs(If any).
    • Campus News.
    • Technical write ups
    • Students corner:Short stories,etc.

This is done for now, since the next meeting will see some substantial progress being made.

And our take on it ?

It is still premature to comment on the developments.

Note:The Students who are interested in  contributing articles/write-ups are requested to send them to either their class representatives or the senior members of   the team.

    MECHANICAL CLUB:

Sources indicate(this may be a rumour ),the Mechanical students are all set,to roll out their very own club(the logo and the name will be short listed very soon),which is being headed by Maruthi Prasad sir,and this Club will surely be a success.

The inauguration of the Mechanical Club, will be taking place after the Dusherra Vacation.

    EKTA:

The ECE Departmental Student association, which was reckoned to be a Association/Club to watch out for,is starving for attention, and activity.

The major advantage they had over the rest of the Clubs/Associations is that they had a head start, but due to their slumber period, the others Clubs will have an equal playing field after the Dusherra vacation, and the action will start,When Each Club will try to out perform the other :P.

    LAB INTERNALS:

The dreaded lab internals, are back and the hardships of the seniors continue,Yesterday was the turn of the EEE seniors, and today the CSE folks had to face the heat, and None of the seniors seemed to be in a good mood,And we preferred staying away from them.
